The made-to-order of recent Avatar and A Christmas Carol, Alice in Wonderland is very often only one luxurious production intended to put full the sight of it, at the same time forgetting to cultivate this magic and this fairyhood so necessary to this kind of history. An account should not only be diverting and attractive, it must comprise a heart and a clean identity.

Poor small Alice (Mia Wasikowska)! The young lady must marry with a rich person but annoying claiming. Instead of that, she runs to reflect in wood, ending up following a rabbit to its hiding-place, for better finding herself in a fantastic world where she can grow and narrow easily. In order to return to the house, she will have to rub with the Red Queen (played by Helena Bonham Carter), to listen the worrying Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp) and to help the White Queen (Anne Hathaway) to release her people.

Association between the scenario writer Tim Burton and the novelist Lewis Carroll concerned the obviousness. The two men are illuminated with fertile imagination, and the symbiosis of their universes represents a phantasm for the film enthusiasts. A wish which takes funny turning however. Not because the creator of Beetlejuice almost does not respect the legendary writings which are Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass, but rather because of the softness of his work.

Faithful to his practices, the man behind Edward Scissorhands creates a phantasmagoric dream where the sumptuous landscapes compete with the happy colors, the music enchanter of Danny Elfman and very skilful special effects. There is not the problem. It is rather so single and authentic style which seems padlocked, limited to a few furtive moments (like this crossing on craniums).

That made of this version of Alice in Wonderland a simple film for children. Not unpleasant to look at, rather well done and palpitating, but a little empty and almost insipid, with many one-dimensional characters (which annoying heroin!) and of the actors who can nothing change there (Depp with Hathaway while passing by Bonham Carter, the caricature is often stronger than all).

This Alice of the 21st century more beautiful than good will not have any difficulty in divert a public which by heart knows already the last effort of James Cameron. Like so in 2010, the new fashion gadget are the glasses in three dimensions and that all the reasons are good to create adaptation of all and of nothing (the best example is this continuation of Tron which will be available from here nearest Christmas). This technology, so impressive is it, will never compensate for the value of the treatment, which leaves something to be desired here cruelly. Simpler and personal, the several derivatives of this traditional of the literature (such The Wizard of Oz, Labyrinth and Spirited Away) had charm to be resold. It is not the case of this splendid powder to the eyes launched by a director who would need more and more to endanger himself and to really dare.
